Shuvdarin Fm

Period:
Permian

Age Interval:
Lower Permian (P?šv), R1

Province:
SE Tajik (SE Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

It was identified by B.P. Barhatov in 1949. V.I. Dronov (1963b) considers it as part of the Rushan complex identified by him.

Synonym: Shuvdarinskaya Suite, Шувдаринская свита

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

The suite is represented by light massive and coarse-bedded, thin-bedded at the top, limestones with interlayers and lenses of black clayey-carbonaceous and phyllitic slates, mainly confined to the upper horizons of the suite, and overlying (possibly tectonically) organogenic limestones, dolomites, and greenstone-altered basic volcanics (Chadegiv thickness). The thickness is 700 m.

In the volume of the Shuvdarin Fm (шувдаринской свиты), V.I. Dronov includes the thickness of limestones, dolomites, and greenstone volcanics, which he discovered in 1968 on the watershed of the Parjavandara and Chadegiv rivers, as well as the slates of the Parjavandarin Fm of B.P. Barhatov (1949), which, according to V.I. Dronov, form lenses within the predominantly carbonate Shuvdarin Fm (шувдаринской свиты).

Lithology Pattern:
Clayey limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies conformably on the carboniferous? Raumid Fm (раумидской свите)

Upper contact

Overlain with visible conformity (but possibly by thrust) by the tentatively Triassic, Bardarin Fm (бардаринской свитой).

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Rushan Range (Southwest Pamir).

Fossils

Organic remains are found only in the upper layers of the suite (in the Chadegiv thickness). Among them are identified late Permian corals Heterocoenites variabilis Gerth., H. cf. crassus Gerth., and fusulinids Neoschwagerina cf. margaritae Depr. The middle and lower layers of the Shuvdarin Fm (шувдаринской свиты) do not contain organic remains except for indeterminable crinoids and spines of sea urchins.

Age

They are tentatively referred to the lower Permian, according to their position in the section below the deposits with the fauna of the upper division.
